Originating from a background in Forestry, Agriculture and Estate contracting, DSC North established its Telecommunications operation from and initial workstream on the Vodafone & O2 Highlands & Islands joint venture rollout, a part European objective 1 funded project delivering GSM mobile communications throughout the region.
This included some 400 “cell sites” with most being constructed by helicopter and All Terrain Vehicle.

Major construction works of the new buildings to house the switches for the digital television switch over at Thrumster Transmitter Station and a Highlands switch for Orange Communications at Rothes followed, quickly establishing DSC North as the predominate supplier in Scotland.
National Parks Specialists – Vodafone formed a specialist National Parks Project Group in 1998, the NPPG, tasked with developing a sensitive approach to telecommunications network roll out suitable for the national parks environment. DSC North was the natural choice for construction.
